Weekly Meeting: Mark Battista "Still Life Photography"

We’ll gather at 7 pm for informal discussion and then start the formal meeting at 7:30 pm.

Mark Battista is a painter and fine art photographer specializing in portrait and still life photography. He graduated from Paier College with a B.F.A. After working for several years as a fine artist and illustrator, Mark received a M.S. in Art Education degree from S.C.S.U and has served in the West Haven School System as an art teacher for the past 35 years. He continues to work as a fine artist and photographer and teaches workshops and one on one tutoring throughout the U.S. Mark will discuss the “Art of Still Life Photography” and share his approach for creating images that tell a story, communicate an idea, and express a mood.

Topics covered will include:

  • The History of Still life

  • Composition For Impact

  • Shooting with Intent

  • Lighting

  • Light Options: Speedlight, window light and constant light

  • Creating a Hierarchy of Interest

  • Working Through a Shot

  • Creating a Series/ Finding Inspiration

  • Still life as Metaphor and Symbol

Mark would like to offer our members the opportunity to purchase his ebook on Still Life Photography. It is normally sold for $25, but he will give our members the chance to purchase the book for $20 until August 30, 2022. The book covers lighting, compositions and plenty of behind the scene information that will inspire and inform photographers looking to explore still life imagery. Members interested in purchasing the ebook can email him and he'll send them an invoice through PayPal. Once payment has been made, he will email an ebook as a PDF to their email address within one business day.
