Several members of PVCC ventured to the Ropkey Armor Museum near Crawfordville for the PVCC field trip on Sept. 13.  The museum contains a large collection of military vehicles dating to WWI.  The collection of tanks is impressive, particularly how they have been restored to like-new condition.  Howitzers, single engine planes, trucks and other memorabilia are housed in a modern indoor facility.  This collection is due to the vision and diligent work of Fred Ropkey. Fred had an interest in military artifacts since childhood.  He served as a tank platoon leader from 1949-1955 with the US Marine Corps. The mission of the museum is to preserve our military heritage for generations to come. The grounds and surrounding country side are very photogenic.
