Grab your camera and dance shoot lens! Photo Venture has just been invited to photograph the Winter Club’s annual Winter Ice Show, featuring figure skaters in small groups and solos, at the State Fairgrounds. Some info from last year’s event from Katie LeSesne, Chris’s daughter and our advocate:
“On the north side of the rink, there are benches where hockey teams would sit. I venture to say that one of those would be usable, as we kept them open last year. You could probably fit 6 photographers on each side (giving them room to move around). I’m not sure what Winter Club is going to keep for skater seating in the benches, so I made a suggestion there. Last year, I was photographing from the sound/ Penalty boxes, there’s probably room for 2-3 more photographers over there.
The no flash is accurate, but the lighting is standard can lighting from the building. I’m will say, it’s a warmer toned light, but the color of the ice is veryyy white. It’s a fun challenge to shoot! I used a Nikon V1 for my photos (which uses CX format lenses) with a 30-110mm. “
