Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre presents FASHION AT THE FLORENCE: GHDT Costumes Past and Present on the Runway, at The Florence on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 6:30 pm.

This is a FUNDRAISING GALA to support the company’s new season.

GHDT is known for its costumes that range from simple elegance to fantastic fashion, and often with a global flair. Mr. Hancock makes or curates all the costumes for the company’s performances. This event is an opportunity to hear Mr. Hancock talk about the inspiration behind many of his creations and see them presented as fashion on the runway.

GHDT dancers, Board members, sponsors, and patrons will all be featured as models for this fabulous fashion event.

There will also be a Silent Auction featuring fashions from the show, and artwork by several of GHDT visual artist friends.

Paparazzi needed!

Gregory has invited us (MEMBERS ONLY) to photograph this unique fashion runway event. The program begins at 6:30 so you will need to be there by 6pm. It is a semiformal fundraiser (tickets are $100) so evening attire required. We can have 10-20 photographers. Gregory would like a head count, so please let Sandy know by September 10 if you plan to be there.

David Johnston - Landscape Photography

Meeting: Zoom

Our speaker this evening is wildlife photographer David Johnston, from Tennessee. Click here to see some of his work!

THE BEGINNING

I started my journey in photography in 2004 when I took a film photography course in high school. It was an amazing experience to shoot with film and then bring those images to life in the darkroom. There is definitely an enormous difference in film and digital photography. Film cameras taught how to get my light correct in-camera as best possible.

However, it was in 2010 that I really became obsessed with photography after I got my first DSLR camera. I decided to put all of my energy into photography to make it my life career. I knew I couldn’t quit my full-time job right away, but I could hustle with photography on the side until I could do photography full-time.

In 2014 I started my first blog and podcast called Photography Roundtable. I had a good run with the podcast and it enabled me to meet some of my best photography friends, teach, and run photography workshops in national parks in the United States.

MAJOR LIFE CHANGE

In 2017 my wife and I had a major life change. We moved to Haiti to become missionaries. My wife runs maternal health programs and I help with logistics and I frequently find myself being her ambulance driver. Even in Haiti I still wanted to do photography and teach in some way. So, I turned to YouTube to share my landscape photography ideas and techniques for people to learn for free.

RIGHT NOW

In 2019, we made the difficult decision to return to our home state of Tennessee which is where we live now. I’m passionate about helping people improve their nature photography with online video. Video content on YouTube, post-processing courses, and video tutorials are my favorite ways of helping people with their photography. One of my favorite ways of talking about landscape photography is through my podcast called The Landscape Photography Show.

Holiday Party and Print Exchange

Holiday Party and Print Exchange

Members Only (plus 1)

No alcohol permited

Join us for PVCC's annual holiday party potluck and print gift exchange. The club will provide an entree of deli meats and cheeses. Please bring your 'plus 1' and a favorite hot or cold dish or dessert to share. Watch for an RSVP sign up so we can plan accordingly.

If you wish to join the exchange, bring a gift-wrapped - no names! - matted print; suggested 8x10 or larger but a calendar of your work or some notecards would also be nice. Each person who gifts, gets to choose and unwrap a print. The next in line has the option to steal or open a new print. If your gift gets stolen, you pick or steal another until everyone who entered has a print. (A print can only be stolen twice.) If you were there last year, you can't help but remember what a blast this was - for everyone not named Paul.

Due to road construction in the area, the best approach is to turn west from 10th St onto Cherry St. This intersects with S 5th St, and the little yellow former church is the Birdie Gallery.
