Let's Learn About Jiu-Jitsu

Meeting Location: Zoom

Christiana Ganahl will  help us learn about Jiu-Jitsu in time for the Club field trip to the International Open IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Indianapolis.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) fundamentals focus on using leverage, technique, and timing to control and submit opponents, primarily on the ground. Core principles include positional hierarchy (guard, side control, mount, back), energy efficiency, frames for space creation, and essential movements like bridging and shrimping to escape bad positions.

Though not a photographer herself, Christiana is no stranger to the focal points of a BJJ competition. Since 2022, she has been on the mats almost daily, working on her technique and preparing for the next competition. She has had over 70 matches and is particularly familiar with the IBJJF structure and ruleset, having competed in both regional tournaments and world championships through the organization.

She looks forward to sharing her perspective on BJJ photography and meeting those who come to the Indianapolis event (where she will be joining as a competitor)
